This is Brittney Parks’ Music. Her dynamic range, honest writing, huge moving synths, classic fiddle breaks, and her mind. It’s as sophisticatedly chaotic as you’d expect. My favorite line still is “what does she know that we haven’t learned yet?”

I love this album and Rayana Jay so much. I’m very fond of this late 2010s streaming era Indie RnB. True to the cover, Rayana’s voice sits like Goldilocks so softly and soundly in hazily sharp production. The chillest vibe that I’m always trying to sustain, even to this day.

So beautiful and, aptly put, passionate. We may be witnessing a cult classic rise up in real time. Also side note: “Tossed Away” sounds like the “Still (Reprise)” from Over The Hedge by Ben Folds.

Legitimately one of the coolest projects I’ve listened to in a minute. Les Amazones D’Afrique is a West African collective of female artists and vocalists that’s been making waves for years now for blending folksong techniques with contemporary production with extreme genre bending and it pays off in waves. Reminds me a lot of early Santigold or Fatoumata Diawara Something that manages to make what could be so esoteric really integral and understood. It’s a vibe fr. Seriously, you’ve got to check this one out.

The rendition of “Angel of Mine” by Monica is so f-ing beautiful. Ugh, I love music 😭
6 OF 11
A presentation of real musical talent. Fully produced, arranged, and synthesized by this multi-instrumentalist wizard. The inspirations and allusions to black music eras and fellow creatives is so rich. Can’t get over that melody in “k.i.s.s.” pulled straight from Brandy’s Full Moon. She is taking it!

This shit is real. Rico continuing to evolve her sound and hone in on her undeniable idgaf attitude. An awesome full length project where sugar trap meets alternative grunge. That ending to SMOKE BREAK is seared into the depths of my bones. We really needed that. Truly, there’s nobody out here doing it like Rico.

I grew up going to a Pentecostal-Baptist church so I’m a sucker for good emotional chord progressions. Muni Long is huge reminder of the talent and hard work that songwriters and demo artists poses. They themselves stars whom need appreciation but, even more than that, investment and support.

Damn. I’ve said it before and I’ll keep saying, Kenyan’s really got an ear for this music thing. And I of course no way have any type of bias.

Another powerful display of the amazing range and cultural synthesizing that Urias has. Moving from they’re previous experimental pop sound to share a live contemporary project that is indisputably afro-Brazilian while honoring history. With Urias representing so many exciting and unique futures.

My personal soundtrack these past couple of months. Halima is an true artist thru and thru who’s been developing her sound long before finding home base in New York. Whether the sonics are more pop/rnb, afro, or alternative every track maintains a lovingly relaxed tone. Matched with deeply personal writing and bountiful introspection. A neat little world that I’m loving coming back to.
