Growing up and living in The West with African immigrant parents has left me in the intersection between so many parts of black and popular culture. At the core of this blog, I think, is simply just a way to share what I’ve been gathering from my specific corner of this spinning rock. I have a big love for music, but even more than that, I love sharing it and the new ideas and feelings it might inspire. I’d like to use this platform highlight media that I enjoy while also amplifying works made by black and otherwise marginalized creative people.
I’ve never really liked how art and music can be viewed as super niche things, as if certain genres, styles or topics are only meant to be enjoyed by certain types of people. That’s snobbish and honestly so boring. More than anything, I want this space to make “artsy stuff” feel more accessible and inviting. Help connect worlds and sounds that otherwise would go unnoticed and undercelebrated. Maybe even offer a place on the internet to slow down and fight back against the algorithms and AI for a bit.
If you are an enjoyer of things and willing to keep an open mind, definitely stick around!
Much love,
k
